Old Map of Croatia / Slovenia
Designed and inspired by Gerald Mercator in 1595 (as can be seen from the inscription in the bottom right hand corner), this striking map was published by Willem Blaeu’s firm in the early 17th century. The stunning snapshot og the Eastern European region of the Balkans includes Slavonia, Croatioa, Bosnia with the Gulf of Venice seen in the lower left hand corner. The intrinsic detail is remarkable and features the regions’ mountains, rivers, villages and towns – all of which are clearly labelled. Three coats of arms introduce the map to the viewer at its top centre.
