Until the major deforestation program in the 1630's, Wiltshire was a heavily wooded county. The watershed of three major rivers makes up the central plains of the county. Salisbury Plain, home to the spectacular prehistoric monument, Stonehenge, is featured on the Speed map of Wiltshire.
