Old Map of Utrecht

Trecht

A most enjoyable map enjoying what must have been in the time, quite unimaginable detail. In early the Roman period the area was known as Traiectum which was the name of a significant fortress located there.

Utrecht (a ford) described its location on the river Rhine at a ford. Traiectum became later became the Dutch Trecht and the letter 'u' came later from the ancient Dutch "uut" (downriver). Note the maize
of canals all accurately named and detailed.
