A much admired map from John Speed's Theatre and Empire of Great Britain atlas. Speede and his engraver had to work with a long and narrow county not fitting the general format of the atlas. Their solution was to reduce the scale of the map and decorate the remaining area with a fascinating and detailed collection of royal portraits.
