Durham County History by John Speed
This map is one of the most accomplished in the whole "Theatre", particularly because of its clarity and embellishment. Durham, even in John Speede's day was industrially developed with a line of coal pits stretching upstream to Newcastle and Gateshead. There's a fascinating account and illustration of a battle between the English and the Scots in 1346 detailed in the lower right area of the map.
