The County of Cambridgeshire
The antique map of Cambridgeshire is one of the most elaborate John Speed maps, with a ground plan of Cambridge, royal arms and four academic figures.
Cambridgeshire fell into two main areas, the Isle of Ely and the rest of the county. The Isle was so-called because of the surrounding marshlands or fens. The Isle of Ely being administered separately by the Bishop of Ely. The map is a fine reference for Cambridge history study.
